A turned metal barrel of the German naval gun of 15 cm caliber for ship models in 1:350.
Responsibility details are not available.
The German naval gun of 15 cm caliber was part of the armament of surface ships and of coastal batteries alike. The figure 40 in the designation is not the caliber but the length of the barrel expressed in calibers: the barrel is therefore roughly forty times longer than the diameter of the bore. A longer barrel meant a higher muzzle velocity and a flatter trajectory, and on a model it shows as a slender, markedly elongated profile that a plastic part rarely holds straight.
A turned metal barrel for a ship model in 1:350. The item belongs among turned barrels and accessories and the name states the metal construction; the particular alloy and the number of pieces in the package are not stated here.
Cut the original barrel from the kit off where it emerges from the shield or the mounting and level the cut surface. Carefully open out the hole for the pin of the new barrel with a drill of the appropriate diameter and dry-fit it until the barrel sits straight in both the horizontal and the vertical plane. With a metal part that matters more than with a plastic one, because the position cannot be corrected afterwards by bending. It is glued with cyanoacrylate glue (super glue). Before painting, degrease the metal and use a primer intended for metal, otherwise the coat will come off during handling.
For builders of ship models in 1:350 who are bothered by production marks, an inaccurate cross-section or a solid muzzle on plastic barrels. The model, paints and glue are not part of the delivery, unless stated otherwise.
