The emblems of one wing across the whole war

An emblem painted under the cockpit told anyone in the know which unit an aircraft served with. With the German fighter wing JG 1 these symbols changed, were added to and were taken over repeatedly over six years, so together they make a clear chronicle of one formation.

The sheet covers the following emblems:

• Stab/JG 1 - the eagle of Lieutenant Colonel Carl Schumacher looking at Heligoland, 1939 to 1940, carried on the Bf 109E
• JG 1 - a derived eagle loosed from a bow, 1940 to 1943, Bf 109G
• JG 1 Oesau - the new wing emblem introduced in the autumn of 1943, Bf 109G and Fw 190A
• I./JG 1 - the crusaders' cross from Jesau, 1940, Fw 190A
• I./JG 1 later - the emblem taken over from JG 77, used on the He 162 in 1945
• 2./JG 1 - the trademark of an insurance company completed with the name of a pilot's wife, 1941, Bf 109E
• 3./JG 1 - a rearing lion with a numeral, the end of 1944, He 162

For a modeler that means a practical saving. Instead of two separate sheets for two scales one is enough, and no stock is left over that would never be used. At the same time one sheet shows well how a unit emblem traveled during the war, changed its background and took over elements from other formations.

The range is remarkable in itself: from patrol Messerschmitts over the North Sea to the jet Salamander of the last weeks of the war. The sheet is printed in two sizes side by side, so one package can mark a model of the larger as well as the smaller scale. Prepare a gloss surface and settle the emblems by the panel line under the cockpit, because their position differs on every version of the aircraft.
