The fifth part of the decal range from the Czech maker AML Decals devoted to No. 312 (Czechoslovak) Squadron RAF, in 1:48 scale. It is a sheet of waterslide decals, not a kit or a finished model. The set holds two color options for Supermarine Spitfire aircraft, specifically the low-altitude LF Mk.Vb version and the later LF Mk.IXe. It therefore covers two different periods of the unit's service and suits those who have already built one machine of the squadron.
The Supermarine Spitfire went through a series of development steps during the war. The Mk.Vb version with a wing of mixed armament was the most widespread variant of the first half of the war; in the LF form it received an engine tuned for low altitudes, and some machines had clipped wingtips for better maneuverability near the ground. The Mk.IXe was the answer to the new German fighters and markedly improved performance with a two-stage supercharger. No. 312 Squadron RAF, made up of Czechoslovak airmen, went through both versions and carried the fuselage code DU.
Before the decals go on, let the paint cure thoroughly and spray the areas with a gloss varnish. Cut the motifs out close to the printing, so that the edge of the film is as small as possible. Soak them briefly in warm water and let them rest on a paper towel until the film releases of its own accord. Once transferred, blot off the water and adjust the position with a damp brush. Settle the large roundels and the bands that cross panel lines with a decal softener, otherwise a taut film stays stretched over the line. Finish the model with a matte varnish, which hides the edges of the decals completely.
The box holds only decals. A kit, paints and glue are not included, unless stated otherwise.
