This is not a kit of an aircraft, but an accessory for one. The resin set from the Czech maker Eduard contains the AGM-62 Walleye II guided glide bomb in 1:48 scale, intended for a hardpoint of a model of a carrier or tactical aircraft. Check the exact number of pieces in the package and any additional material against the packaging and the enclosed instructions.
The Walleye is an American glide bomb with no propulsion of its own, guided by a television camera in the nose. Before release the operator picked a contrasting point of the target on his screen, the weapon memorized it and from then on held its own course onto it. The aircraft therefore did not have to stay over the target. Against the original Walleye I, the Walleye II version had a substantially heavier warhead and was meant for hard targets such as bridges and fortified structures. It was used by the US Navy and the weapon stayed in service long after the Vietnam War.
Wash the resin parts in lukewarm water with detergent, so that the release agent disappears from them. Cut the casting block off with a saw; do not break it. They are glued with cyanoacrylate; cement for plastic does not work here. Sand wet and with respiratory protection. The body of the bomb has large smooth surfaces where every scratch shows — so sand them with fine paper before painting and spray a primer. Leave the lens of the seeker glossy or bring it out with a drop of clear varnish.
The set is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and the base kit are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
