Engines for the Boeing B-17G in 1:48 scale are a resin detailing accessory from the Mettalic Details brand. It is not a model of the aircraft but a replacement for the engine units in a plastic kit.
Responsibility details are not available.
This item is a detailing accessory, not a kit of an aircraft. It contains resin engine units intended to replace the simplified plastic parts in a model of the four-engine Boeing B-17G bomber in 1:48 scale. A resin casting allows finer rendering of the cylinders, the drives and the detail of the engine mount than an injection mold can manage. The accessory is intended for a base kit you already own, and on its own it does not make a model.
The Boeing B-17 Flying Fortress is an American four-engine all-metal bomber of the Second World War period. The B-17G version was the most numerously produced variant of the type, and its recognition feature was the forward gun turret under the nose. Power came from Wright R-1820 Cyclone radial engines with turbochargers, together with three-blade variable-pitch propellers. It is precisely the engine nacelles that on B-17 models are among the places where the difference between series plastic and a resin replacement shows the most.
Wash the parts first in lukewarm water with dish soap so that the residue of the mold release agent is removed – without that, neither paint nor glue will hold. Cut the casting blocks off with a saw or a cutter, do not break them off. Glue the resin with superglue, or with two-part epoxy; cement for plastic does not work here. Sand wet and protect your airways. Before painting, apply a thin coat of primer so that the shades hold on smooth resin. It is practical to paint the engine assemblies and bring them out before they are covered by the nacelles.
The accessory is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and the base kit are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
