A turned barrel for the British 57 mm 6-pounder Mk.III gun in 1:48 scale from Aber. A metal replacement for the plastic barrel on models of the Centaur and Cromwell tanks.
Responsibility details are not available.
This is a turned metal barrel in 1:48 scale from the Polish maker Aber. It replaces the plastic barrel of the British quick-firing 57 mm 6-pounder gun in the Mk.III variant on models of the Centaur and Cromwell tanks. It is not a model of a tank but a detail accessory meant to raise the fidelity of a build.
The British 57 mm 6-pounder anti-tank gun was among the main armament of the cruiser tanks of the first half of the war. The Mk.III variant had a shorter barrel than the later Mk.V, which is a difference clearly visible on a model. The gun was carried by the early versions of the Cromwell and Centaur, until armament of a larger caliber took over on the later machines.
Cut the plastic barrel off as close to the mantlet as possible and level the pin with a file so that the metal part sits on the axis. Degrease the metal before gluing, roughen it slightly and glue it with cyanoacrylate glue. Unlike plastic, a turned barrel has a hollow muzzle and no mold parting line, so there is no filling and no sanding. Lay down a base coat for metals before painting, otherwise the paint will not hold on the smooth surface.
This is a detail set, not a complete model. Glue, paints and the base kit are not included in the package.
