An injection-molded plastic kit from the maker Bronco capturing the single-engined fighter aircraft North American Mustang in the late form with the designation F-51D, that is, as it was listed after the American fighter category was redesignated from the letter P to F. According to the name the boxing is aimed at the service in the Korean War. The model is meant to be glued and painted and is supplied unassembled.
The Mustang was a single-seat fighter aircraft with a liquid-cooled V engine, a laminar-flow wing section and a long range, which allowed it escort flights over long distances. The D version was given a sliding bubble canopy with a cut-down rear fuselage, which markedly improved the view to the rear, and heavy armament in the wing. After the redesignation to F-51D these machines served for a number of years more, among other things in the role of an aircraft for supporting ground units. It was exactly in this role that their ability to carry stores and to stay over a battlefield for a long time came into its own, whereas the jet machines of the day had a considerably shorter endurance.
Build and paint the cockpit before closing the fuselage; on a Mustang it is clearly visible under the large canopy. Check the joints of the wing with the fuselage dry, fill any seam and sand it over, because on a smooth metal surface every unevenness is conspicuous. A natural metal surface is best done over a gloss black base, and apply the silver shades in thin coats, ideally with the individual panels told apart. Varnish the area with a gloss coat before the decals, use a softener once they have dried and close the whole thing with a satin varnish. Leave the propeller, the wheels and the exhausts until last, so that they are not damaged during handling.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
