An accessory set cast in resin for models in 1:48 scale. It replaces the landing gear wheels, which in injection-molded kits are usually split into halves. This is the form for the Canadian machines, which the manufacturer lists separately from the sets for the individual base versions of the aircraft. The set contains no other part of the model.
The F-35 Lightning II is a single-engined single-seat combat aircraft of the current generation, built in three base forms that differ in the way they take off and land and in their adaptation for land or carrier use. Canada is among the countries bringing this type into service. The landing gear is of the nosewheel arrangement and the main wheels are clearly apparent on a parked aircraft.
Modern machines tend to have clean surfaces and few protrusions, so a finished model stands or falls on the small things: the right edge of the cockpit, the pylons and precisely the landing gear. A resin wheel with no split seam and a crisply cast hub helps more here than on an aircraft whose surface is full of rivets and antennas. At the same time it saves filling the tread, where sanding would wipe the pattern away.
With current aircraft it pays to keep the weathering in check. Spray a primer, then the hub shade, mask it with a circular mask and finish the tire in dark gray. Heavy dust and mud do not belong on wheels operated from prepared surfaces; a very fine light dusting on the tread and an unobtrusive darkening where it meets the base are enough.
The set is an accessory for building a model, not a standalone model. It is supplied unpainted; paints and glue are not included in the package.
