The dark field of a scheme
A dark blue-gray tone was used in British camouflage schemes as a counterweight to the light areas. The boundary between the dark and the light field does not follow the shape of the hull but deliberately breaks it, so that the real outline of the ship is lost at a distance. On a model the accuracy of the boundaries therefore decides more than with a single-color finish. Here too it holds that this is a color for vertical surfaces: the decks have tones of their own and the lower limit remains the waterline, below which the color of the underwater part follows on.
For modelers of British ships who build a contrasting camouflage scheme and need its dark member. It suits cruisers, destroyers and escort units, on which such schemes appeared most often.
