Caracal Models decals 1:48 for four machines of the Hawaii Air National Guard - three aircraft of the A version and one later machine of the C version of the 199th Fighter Squadron.
Responsibility details are not available.
The sheet is devoted to the 199th Fighter Squadron of the Hawaii Air National Guard, which from the mid-1980s provided the air defense of the island chain. It offers four particular aircraft: three machines of the A version with the serial numbers 74-0127, 74-0088 and 76-0063, and one aircraft of the later C version, 78-0528.
The squadron is known for the striking markings on its tail fins referring to Hawaiian symbolism, and it was among the units that kept the older versions of this twin-engine fighter considerably longer than the regular air force did. The combination of both versions on one sheet makes it possible to build a pair of models from different periods of the same squadron's service without having to track down two separate sheets.
The decals of this brand are marked by accurate color registration and a very thin carrier film, which leaves no step on a gray finish. Besides the national insignia, the sheet also holds a complete set of technical lettering and markings for both versions. The recommended procedure involves a glossy surface, a short soak and fixing with a medium-strength softener; aggressive products are not needed.
The set is worked up in 1:48 scale and assumes use on a model obtained separately. It is a good idea to let the gray tactical finish cure for at least a day before application, otherwise the mark of pressure from the brush is easily left under the film. Anyone building both of the types represented should watch that the forward fuselage differs between the versions and lay the lettering out accordingly.
