This variant captures Mk.83 bombs fitted with thermal protection. The name gives four pieces and 1:32 scale. The difference against the ordinary form is not only in the designation: the protective treatment changes the appearance of the surface, so it really is visible on a finished model.
The protective layer is applied because of the risk of ignition where munitions are handled in confined spaces and in large numbers, typically on decks. Outwardly it shows in a rougher and less glossy surface and usually in a different shade from the smooth variant. For a modeler that means above all different work with the finish, because the texture of the surface matters as much as the color itself.
Apply flat paint in two thin coats and run the last of them from a greater distance, so that a fine grain appears on the surface. A dry brush in a shade one tone lighter will then bring out the edges and the texture. Avoid gloss varnishes, which would level the whole impression out smooth. If you are building a scene, combine these bombs with smooth pieces only where that matches your real subject.
