This item is not a model and not a kit. It is a sheet of wet transfers in 1:48 scale, intended for models of the Vought F4U Corsair fighter in the F4U-1D and F4U-4 versions of the Second World War. Check the particular contents of the sheet, that is, whether these are technical markings, national insignia, personal markings or a combination of them, and the number of schemes covered, against the illustration on the packaging.
An ordinary decal stays on the model as a thin layer of varnish with a carrier film that gives itself away in certain light by a glossy border around the marking. With a wet transfer the carrier film is removed after the transfer and practically only the paint stays on the surface. The result therefore looks like markings sprayed straight onto the skin, which tells above all on matte camouflage and on large areas. The method differs from classic decals in its details, and the exact order of the steps is given in the instructions enclosed in the package; what they share is that the surface has to be smooth and glossy and that a transfer has to be pressed down carefully after being applied, so that it settles into the engraved lines as well.
The Vought F4U Corsair was a carrier fighter with a characteristic inverted gull wing and a powerful radial engine. The F4U-1D version got a one-piece canopy with a better view and pylons for external stores, thanks to which it could take on attack tasks as well. The later F4U-4 meant a further stage of development: a more powerful powerplant, a four-blade propeller and a revised cockpit. Both versions are often built in modeling and clean markings stand out on them.
