A photo-etched metal set in 1:48 scale from Aber with the parts for the covers of German fuel drums of 200 liter capacity from the Second World War period. Thin metal allows the rings and covers to be made at the real thickness of the sheet, which with injection-molded plastic or resin is not feasible. It is an accessory to vehicles and dioramas, not a standalone model.
Drums of 200 liter capacity were the basic unit for moving fuel in every army of the Second World War. They were carried on the beds of trucks, on trailers and loose at supply points, and in dioramas they are among the most used props of all. Etched covers and rings give the drums the sharp edges and the modeling that a smooth cylinder does not have on its own.
Nip the parts from the etched fret and clean them up, make the bends on a bending tool or along the scored lines and glue them with cyanoacrylate glue. Degrease the metal before painting and go over it with a base coat for adhesion. In 1:48 scale the parts are very small, so sharp tweezers and good lighting pay off.
An accessory for a plastic kit. The model itself, glue and paints are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
