The Junkers Ju 87D dive bomber in 1:48 scale. The package consists of film for the busy cockpit glazing from both sides, two sets of national insignia masks and a pair of turned MG 151 cannon muzzles. Intended for the Hasegawa model.

The move from the D-3 version to the D-5 was not cosmetic and concerned precisely the armament in the wing. The older form had one MG 17 machine gun of 7.92 millimeters caliber in each wing half, that is a weapon good for strafing infantry but helpless against anything armored. The D-5 version received MG 151 cannons of 20 millimeters caliber in their place and with them an extended wing with a larger area to make up for the gain in weight.
The two turned cannon muzzles in this package are therefore not an arbitrary extra detail. They are precisely the parts that turn the model into a late machine, and the difference between a thin machine gun tube and the wider muzzle of a cannon is clearly noticeable in the leading edge. From behind, the crew was protected by a twinned pair of light MG 81 machine guns on a movable mount, but the set does not cover that.
The glazing of the Stuka is among the most laborious parts of the whole build. It extends across both seats, is divided into many small panes and the frames run in several directions, so masking by hand with tape can easily take a whole evening. Pre-cut films shorten that work to a fraction and keep the edges straight.
Two sets of national insignia masks make it possible to spray the crosses on the fuselage and on both surfaces of the wings with paint. There is no decal sheet in this package, which against some sister sets of the same series is a difference worth allowing for in advance.
This type never had an unbroken wing, so the metal muzzles are fitted into a distinctly cranked leading edge. It therefore pays to check that both tubes make the same angle with the axis of the fuselage, otherwise the asymmetry will be noticeable at once from the front.
Everything is cut to the Hasegawa kit in 1:48 scale; the plastic parts are bought separately.
