A set of masks for the Soviet La-5F fighter in 1:48 scale. Cockpit cut-outs for the outer and the inner side and two masks for the national insignia.
Responsibility details are not available.
On a Lavochkin the letter after the figure means more than just a boosted engine. On the F version the tall metal decking behind the cockpit disappeared and was replaced by a lowered spine with a new bubble-shaped piece of glazing to the rear. For the first time the pilot could see behind him, which in maneuvering combat over the Eastern Front was decisive. For a modeler it means quite a different set of clear parts from its predecessor and a mask that cannot be mistaken for the old one.
The package offers two complete sets of cockpit cut-outs, that is the outside and the inner side of the frames, and with them a pair of masks for spraying the stars. Decals are not enclosed, so the small factory lettering has to be got elsewhere or left out, which after all matches the real appearance of front-line machines, where it tended to be quickly covered in dust.
The boosted engine and the modified fuselage went into production during 1943 and the machines managed to join the great summer fighting. They were deployed in dense formations over the area where the decisive tank clashes were taking place, and there the new field of view paid off for pilots at once.
Behind the lowered spine an armor plate behind the pilot's head also appeared, which with a closed cockpit is visible through the glass. If you are going to glue the cover in the closed position, paint it before you stick the mask on. The kit itself is a separate purchase, as are paints and glue.
