A decal sheet in 1:48 scale for the Polikarpov I-153 fighter biplane in the form of captured machines in Finnish service.
Responsibility details are not available.
The Polikarpov I-153, nicknamed Chaika, is a Soviet single-seat fighter biplane from the end of the 1930s. You recognize it by its upper wing cranked into the shape of gull wings, which gave it its nickname, and by its retractable landing gear, which was unusual on a biplane of that time. Some of these machines fell into Finnish hands and the Finns took them into their own air force, where they flew in Finnish markings.
Decals in 1:48 scale for a model of the I-153 in the form the machines took after they were remarked into Finnish service. The set therefore allows a less usual version of a machine that is most often built in Soviet markings. Which particular machines the sheet covers, how many variants it offers and how they differ is given in the instructions supplied with the sheet.
Sheets of this kind are applied the wet way. Cut the element out together with its backing close to the edge, dip it in lukewarm water for a few seconds and let it stand until it can be slid off the paper. Apply it onto a smooth gloss surface; on a matte one air stays under the decal and the edge turns white. Settle the element, push the water out from under it with a cotton swab from the center toward the edges and draw it down over rivets and pressed features with a decal softener. Once it has dried, varnish the whole model, which makes the edges of the decals disappear.
The aircraft model, the paints, the varnish and the decal softener are not included in the delivery, unless stated otherwise.
