The R-24T Apex missile in 1:48 scale from Plusmodel — a resin miniature of the infrared-guided version of the Soviet air-to-air missile, an ideal accessory of armament for models of the MiG-23.
Responsibility details are not available.
A resin casting of the Soviet R-24T guided missile (NATO code AA-7 Apex) in 1:48 scale from the Czech manufacturer Plusmodel. It is an accessory of aircraft armament, not a stand-alone model of an aircraft; you fit the missile to the stores stations of your kit or lay it on a munitions trolley in a diorama.
The R-24 missile came about at the end of the 1970s as a higher performing successor to the R-23 type for the MiG-23ML and MLD fighters. The letter T in the designation means a heat, that is an infrared, seeker head: after launch the missile homed on the heat emission of the target itself, so the pilot did not have to go on illuminating the target by radar. The infrared version can be told from the radar R-24R by its characteristic rounded head with a sensor in place of the dielectric radome. On the aircraft the two types were usually combined, as each method of homing had its strengths.
Before building, wash the parts free of the remains of the mold release agent, cut the casting blocks off carefully and sand them with protection for your airways. Glue with cyanoacrylate. When painting, pay attention to the dark sensor of the seeker head; a drop of gloss black varnish will create a convincing optical element. The color schemes of training and live missiles differed, and a comparison with period photographs will add credibility to the store.
The accessory is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue and paints are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
