The Eduard TFace masking set for a model of the Sikorsky HH-34J helicopter in 1:48 scale masks the glazing from the outside as well as from the inside.
Responsibility details are not available.
This is a set of pre-cut self-adhesive masks from the Czech manufacturer Eduard, not a kit. The designation TFace means that the sheet holds masks for both sides of the glazing, that is from the outside and from the inside. That is a substantial difference from the ordinary version, which deals only with the outside. The material is kabuki paper, thin Japanese masking paper with a fine adhesive.
The frames of the cabin on a real machine are not the same color inside as outside; inside they tend to be in the interior shade. When you spray the frames only from outside, clear plastic shows through when you look into the cabin and the illusion falls apart. The TFace set lets you paint the frames first from the inside in the interior color, then glue the clear part in and finish the frames from outside with the outer mask. On a helicopter with a large and clearly visible cabin that difference shows at first glance, which is why the TFace version is particularly useful on helicopters.
Apply the inner masks first, before the clear part is glued into the fuselage, otherwise you will not reach into the cabin. Press each mask down around its whole edge with a toothpick and check that the inner and the outer mask lie opposite each other, or a shifted double edge will appear. Spray the paint in thin coats; for the interior color a covering coat is enough, not a heavy one. Before the final varnish, check that no mask has lifted. Remove the masks by pulling them back over themselves while the paint is dry but not yet fully cured.
The set contains masking templates. The kit, paints and glue are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
