This is an accessory for modelers, not a kit. According to the name the package contains eight pieces of turned metal parts representing naval guns of 4.7 inch caliber in the QF Mk XII form, that is roughly 120 mm. The set is intended as a replacement for the plastic barrels on a model of a warship in 1:700 scale. Whether the package also contains parts of the mounting, or only the barrels, is stated on the box.
In 1:700 scale a barrel has a diameter of tenths of a millimeter, so a plastic part tends to be thickened just so that it can be molded at all, and it carries a parting line that at this size practically cannot be cleaned up. Turned metal holds the correct slender profile, has a crisply finished muzzle and, above all, does not sag or twist. On a destroyer or a cruiser, where the gun armament is distributed along the whole length of the hull, that exchange shows immediately.
The abbreviation QF stands for a quick-firing gun; the 4.7 inch caliber was among the typical medium gun armament of British destroyers, while the individual marks differed in barrel length and type of mounting. Before buying, therefore, it is worth comparing the Mk XII form with the particular ship and period you are building.
Cut the plastic barrel off at the root and widen the hole with a micro drill, so that the metal part seats without pressure, otherwise a thin-walled turret will split. Glue with gel cyanoacrylate glue, which gives you time to straighten the axis. Degrease the metal before painting and prime it, and above all fit the barrels only once the painting of the hull is finished, so that they are not bent during handling.
The package contains only the metal parts listed. The model of the ship, glue and paints are not part of the delivery, unless stated otherwise.
