Nine turned metal barrels of 203 mm caliber in 1:700 scale meant to replace the plastic parts of the main battery of the American heavy cruiser of the New Orleans type. It is not a kit of a ship but a detail accessory used while building a model. It is made by the Polish brand Aber.
The heavy cruisers of the New Orleans type were the last American interwar generation of ships with the 203 mm caliber, then the treaty-set upper bound for this category. The nine guns were arranged in three triple turrets, two forward and one aft. Ships of this type took part in the key Pacific operations and several of them went through heavy night actions off the Solomon Islands. The maker offers a separate set for this group because the barrels differed in shape from ship to ship.
First cut off the plastic barrels and level the face of the turret so that the new barrel seats square. Drill the holes slowly with a hand micro drill so that the plastic does not melt and the hole does not end up oval. Seat the barrels dry, check that the whole trio points the same way, and only then fix them with a small drop of cyanoacrylate glue. Degrease the brass with alcohol before spraying and go over it with a primer for metal. Lay the paint on in thin coats so that the muzzle stays legible.
The set is an accessory to a model, not a kit of a ship. The base model, paints and glue are not included in the package.
