A set of small injection-molded parts from the Chinese manufacturer Flyhawk for refining ship models in 1:700 scale. It is not a model of a ship but an accessory: the subject is the deck equipment of Royal Navy vessels from the period of the Second World War, that is, the small fittings scattered over the decks and superstructures that lend a model scale and credibility.
It is precisely the small deck items that in kits in 1:700 scale are either molded as flat relief on the deck or missing altogether. The replacement parts are modeled separately and so have real volume and a sharper outline. On a model that shows above all when looking from above, where an empty deck is the most conspicuous weakness. The set also comes in useful for filling in older molds and for equipping ships whose particular appearance you are building according to period photographs.
Count on very small parts: tweezers, a sharp scalpel and a surface from which nothing will disappear are a necessity. Cut the parts off the fret rather than breaking them off. It has proved worthwhile to paint them beforehand on the fret, to fine-tune the shade once they are glued on and finally to unify them with a thin wash, which emphasizes the shape. They are glued with a small amount of liquid cement for plastic, as an excess would flood the fine detail. Compare the layout on the deck beforehand with a reference photograph or drawing.
This is an accessory, not a stand-alone model. The set is supplied unassembled and unpainted; glue and paints are not included in the package.
