A set of photo-etched metal parts in 1:700 scale intended for detailing a plastic kit of the Chinese guided missile destroyer Type 052D. It is not a model of a ship but an accessory: the photo-etched parts replace those pieces that in 1:700 reduction cannot be formed thin enough in plastic, and they move the finished model up a level.
The Type 052D is a modern guided missile destroyer of the PLA Navy. It carries a vertical launch system for surface-to-air as well as anti-ship guided missiles, flat phased array radar panels on the superstructure and, at the rear, a landing deck with a hangar for a helicopter. Against the older Chinese destroyers it has a markedly smoother silhouette with large flat surfaces and angular masts, and it is precisely with shapes like these in a small scale that every plastic part that is too thick gives away that this is a reduction.
Cut the parts out with a sharp scalpel on a hard surface, and never break them out with your fingers. Make the bends in a bending tool or at least between two steel rules, so that the edge stays straight along its whole length. For bonding, super glue applied with the tip of a wire has proved itself, and on larger areas a slower-setting variant that leaves time for lining up. Degrease the metal before painting and spray it with primer, otherwise it does not hold on a smooth surface. Paint the railings and fine screens only after they have been glued on, best of all with an airbrush from two directions, so that the paint reaches the far side as well.
