A resin replacement for the horizontal tailplane for the Bristol Beaufighter Mk.I in 1:72 scale from the Czech maker AML. The casting captures the late version with dihedral, which was introduced on the type later on. According to its designation the set is cut for the kit from Airfix. Resin holds its shape better than a thin plastic part and the leading and trailing edges stay crisp.
The Beaufighter grew out of the Beaufort torpedo bomber and was powered by two Bristol Hercules radial engines. In service it turned out that the machine was directionally unsettled on take-off and landing. The answer was to give the horizontal tailplane dihedral; the later versions had it from the factory and some of the earlier machines were modified. On a model it is a recognition feature of a particular aircraft, not a cosmetic detail.
Wash the parts in lukewarm water with detergent and let them dry completely. Cut the casting block off with a saw and level the mating surface on sandpaper laid on glass. Check the angle of the fit against the fuselage dry, and only then glue with cyanoacrylate glue. Fill and sand the joint so that it does not show once it is sprayed. Protect your airways when sanding resin and sand wet if you can.
The set is an accessory for a kit and does not replace the kit. Paints, glue and the model are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
