Injection-molded plastic kit of the American landing hovercraft LCAC (Landing Craft Air Cushion) in 1:72 scale from Trumpeter. It is a large air-cushion craft used by the US Marine Corps to move vehicles, cargo and equipment quickly from amphibious ships straight onto the beach and across it. The kit contains an intricate platform with a cargo deck, the propulsion and lift units, photo-etched extras and a representation of the flexible skirt of the air cushion. The instructions in the box give the binding overview of the parts and the extent of the etch.
The LCAC is a high-speed amphibious hovercraft able to carry a load in the order of tens of tons. Thanks to its air cushion it does not move through the water like a conventional ship but hovers above the surface and above the beach, so it can run straight ashore and deliver equipment to places a landing ship with a hull could not reach. Craft of this type form the backbone of modern American amphibious landings and carry, among other things, armored vehicles and supplies.
The large platform and the side chambers call for careful gluing and for filling the seams where needed. Treat the flexible skirt of the cushion and the fine photo-etched items with care; glue the etch with cyanoacrylate. We recommend a primer, the main shades with an airbrush and more pronounced weathering - hovercraft tend to be heavily dirtied in service by salt, dust and exhaust. A wash and a dry brush will bring out the texture of the deck and the gratings.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
