Responsibility details are not available.
Self-adhesive masking templates for the control surfaces of a model of the late versions of the Japanese Yokosuka D4Y carrier dive bomber in 1:72 scale. Spraying over the masks creates shading on the ailerons, the elevator and the rudder that matches the ribbed fabric structure. The set is an accessory for painting, not a kit.
The D4Y3 and D4Y4 versions differ from the early variants in their powerplant. While the D4Y1 and D4Y2 had a liquid-cooled engine and a slender nose, the later versions got a radial engine, which widened the forward fuselage and changed the silhouette of the aircraft markedly.
The adhesion of a mask lives and dies by the surface beneath it. The paint has to be cured, not just dry to the touch, and the surface free of dust and of grease from fingers. The surest approach is to rinse the model in lukewarm water with a drop of detergent before masking, let it dry in the open air and not touch it with bare hands again. A mask holds less well on a matte finish than on a satin or gloss one, because the microscopic roughness reduces the area of contact. If you are building a model whose base is to be markedly matte, consider an order in which the control surface effect is sprayed onto a satin base and the matte sheen is tuned only with the final varnish.
The package holds masking material only. The model, paints and varnish are not part of it, unless stated otherwise.
