American 3 inch ammunition, that is 76.2 millimeters, was carried in wooden boxes that lay about by the dozen at guns, at vehicles and in dumps. Boxes of exactly that kind are a rewarding accessory: they give a scene scale, fill empty places on fenders and beds, and offer wood, lettering and battered edges to paint. The set is prepared in 1:35 scale, in which most modelers build armored vehicles.

Building and painting tips

Cut the excess material and production marks off a little way from the part with a sharp blade and sand the rest down gently. Before painting, wash, degrease and apply an undercoat. Do not make the wood all one color: play the base shade up with a darker glaze in the gaps and a lighter tone over the raised parts. Leave a few boxes open or tipped over and the scene comes to life at once. Use super glue.
