A set of pre-cut self-adhesive masks of kabuki tape for a model of the Phantom in 1:72 scale. Kabuki tape is a thin paper carrier that adapts well to curves, holds reliably on an edge and after removal leaves no sticky film or matte marks on clear parts. The BASIC designation is a level of extent within this manufacturer's range: it is the smallest variant of the set, above which the more extensive ADVANCED and EXPERT levels still stand. It is not a kit or a finished model, but an accessory used during painting.
The McDonnell Douglas F-4 Phantom II was a two-seat twin-engine supersonic fighter aircraft, one of the most widespread combat types of the second half of the twentieth century. The F-4C and F-4D versions were brought into service with the US Air Force, while the F-4J served with the Navy. All of them share the characteristic two-seat cockpit with split canopies, so masking the glazing is among the most demanding parts of painting on this type.
Degrease the clear parts in lukewarm soapy water and let them dry. Lift the mask off the carrier film with tweezers, seat it dry according to the engraved frames and only then press it down with a soft tool. Kabuki tape stands a slight stretch, so it can be drawn even over a rounded transition, but do not pull on it by force, as a deformed mask changes the width of the frame. On a two-seat cockpit mask both canopies at once, so that the frames have a uniform shade. Spray in thin coats and remove the mask shortly after the paint has dried.
The set of masks is an accessory for painting a model. The model, paints and glue are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
