A resin set of underwing armament from Rise144models. It contains two pieces of the heavy guided bomb GBU-24 A/B in 1:144 scale. It is not a kit of an aircraft: the set serves to arm a finished model with realistic munitions.
The GBU-24 belongs to the Paveway III family of laser-guided bombs. What sets it apart from earlier guidance kits is a more advanced autopilot that flies a smooth trajectory instead of abrupt corrections, so the bomb can be released from low altitude and from a greater distance, outside the reach of the target's point defense. You will recognize it by its long body, the prominent guidance head at the front and the large folding wings at the rear, which open out after release. It is typical armament for hard, precisely defined targets, and on a model it says unambiguously that the aircraft is flying a strike mission rather than a patrol.
The long thin body of the bomb is cast in resin as one fragile piece, so cut it from the casting block slowly and with a sharp blade, with the part supported so that it does not break. Keep sanding to an absolute minimum: with these munitions the whole character lies in the sharp edges of the wings and in the division of the head. After washing off the mold release agent and drying perfectly, apply a thin primer. They are bonded with super glue in micro-drops applied with the tip of a wire to the mating surface of the station; a larger drop would run between the wings. Painting: a base shade for the whole body, the head a shade darker and the colored bands at the front with a thin brush at the end. A weak wash will bring out the dividing lines of the bomb body.
The set is supplied unassembled and unpainted. The model of the aircraft, glue and paints are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
