An injection-molded plastic kit of the German StuG IV assault gun in 1:100 scale from Zvezda. The 1:100 range is conceived as small models of military vehicles for a quick build, used in display cases, in small dioramas and on the table of wargames. The finished model fits in the palm of the hand, so it takes up practically no room on a shelf.
The Sturmgeschütz IV, with the factory designation Sd.Kfz. 167, came about by joining the hull of the Panzer IV medium tank to the fighting superstructure of the StuG III assault gun. The armament was a 75 mm gun with a barrel length of 48 calibers mounted in the front plate of the superstructure; the vehicle had no turret, so the traverse of the gun was limited to a narrow arc and aiming to the side was handled by turning the whole vehicle. Series production ran from the end of 1943. The design offered a low silhouette and heavy frontal armor and was committed both to supporting infantry and to destroying armored targets from prepared firing positions.
In 1:100 scale you work with very small parts, so thin plastic cement applied with a tip and a pair of tweezers pay off. Glue the running gear, the side plates and the superstructure and let them cure properly before painting. Lay down a primer and spray the main shade with an airbrush or a spray can in thin coats. Bring out the engraved detail with a dark wash, lighten the edges slightly with a dry brush and dust the lower part of the running gear with pigment. At such a small scale a fine hint of wear looks more convincing than heavy weathering.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
