An injection-molded plastic kit of the racing motorcycle Honda RC166 in 1:12 scale from the Japanese manufacturer Tamiya. The model reproduces one of the most famous circuit machines in history down to the smallest detail, from the tubular frame through the exposed engine to the smooth bodywork. The package includes metal-plated rims and wheel spokes, rubber tires with a period tread pattern, soft tubing, metal screws, nuts and springs for a realistic result. The kit is supplied unassembled and unpainted.
The Honda RC166 was the peak of Japanese racing engineering of the mid-1960s. It was powered by an air-cooled inline six-cylinder engine of 250 cc with DOHC valve gear and four valves per cylinder, which revved to extremely high speeds and gave out a characteristically piercing sound. In its class it had practically no competition: in 1966 Mike Hailwood won every race of the quarter-liter class on it and brought Honda both the rider's and the manufacturer's title. To this day the RC166 is a symbol of the engineering daring of the Honda brand.
Motorcycles stand or fall on the cleanliness of the detail. Glue the parts with thin cement for plastic, which runs into the seams without flooding them. The engine and the frame come out best with a combination of metal and chrome shades, ideally applied with an airbrush over a primer. The bodywork calls for a smooth, glossy finish, which after drying and possible polishing takes on the look of real paint. Set the sponsor decals and the race numbers on a gloss base so that no silvering appears. Leave the wire wheels with their plated spokes as untouched by paint as possible.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
