The Kawasaki KH400 is one of the classic Japanese road motorcycles with an air-cooled two-stroke triple. It is precisely the trio of cylinders and the exhausts that go with them that give the machine its unmistakable look, which comes across well on a model too. The A3 and A4 designations distinguish variants within the range; which parts this concerns is given in the assembly instructions.
The 1:12 scale is the most usual one for motorcycles and is ideal for them: it lets the frame, the engine, the exhausts and the small details on the handlebars come into their own. The finished model measures around eighteen centimeters. A list of parts and the recommended order of assembly are given in the manufacturer's instructions.
A motorcycle has no bodywork to hide anything behind, so every joint shows. Paint the frame, the engine and the tank separately and join them only once they have dried. Apply the gloss finish of the tank and the side panels in thin coats; leave the polished and chrome surfaces to be brought out at the very end. Anyone who wants to go further can add the cables and lines from fine wire, but first think through the order of the work, because once the frame is glued some places are out of reach.
The kit will suit modelers who like engineering on open display, and collectors of Japanese motorcycles. The build is unhurried, but it calls for accuracy in seating the frame, the wheels and the exhausts so that the model stands level and does not rock.
Paints, glue and tools are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
