Responsibility details are not available.
The model captures the German battlecruiser SMS Seydlitz in 1:1200 scale. It is the smallest of the commonly used ship scales, in which even a capital ship takes up to twenty centimeters in length. The small scale will be appreciated by collectors who are running out of room in a display case, and by those who want several ships side by side in the same ratio so as to compare their dimensions.
SMS Seydlitz was a battlecruiser of the Imperial German Navy which became a textbook example of the toughness of the German school of design. In the action at Dogger Bank she suffered a heavy hit on the after gun turrets, and only the flooding of the magazines prevented an explosion that would have destroyed the ship. The experience of that hit led to changes in fire protection which paid off for the German ships later at Jutland. In that battle Seydlitz took an extraordinary number of hits and still managed to return to port. After the war she ended up, together with the rest of the fleet, scuttled by her own crew at Scapa Flow.
Work in a small scale rewards care. Clean the parts up carefully, because damage to the surface will be emphasized once varnished. Apply the paint in thin layers, best with an airbrush. A weak dark wash will draw out the edges of the superstructures and the gun turrets; use drybrushing only on exposed places. The model looks good on a simple base with a suggested water surface.
