For airliners 1:144 is the most widespread scale, so the model fits well into a collection beside machines from other makers. The MC-21 is a twin-engined narrow-body airliner developed in Russia as a competitor to the established Western narrow-bodies. It first flew in 2017 and the version designated 300 is the baseline variant of the whole family, intended for roughly a hundred and fifty to two hundred passengers depending on the cabin layout. Among the most frequently mentioned features of the design are a wing making extensive use of composite materials and a fuselage unusually wide for this category, meant to improve comfort as well as the speed of turnaround. The aircraft is designed for modern high-bypass turbofan engines.
Airliners in 1:144 scale stand or fall by a smooth surface. Fill and sand the joint of the two fuselage halves carefully, because a light color reveals every scratch, and restore any engraving that disappears while sanding. On an aircraft with a nosewheel it is a good idea to put weight into the nose before the fuselage is glued together. The base is usually a gloss white coat, for which it pays to use a good primer and to apply the paint in thin layers. Large decals, that is the cheatlines on the fuselage and the vertical tail, call for patience: lay them over gloss clear coat, use decal softener and press them down with a cotton swab from the middle outwards, so that no air is trapped anywhere. Fit the landing gear, the engine nacelles and the small antennas last.
