1:72 Westland Sea King HAR.3 / Mk.43 is a double-sided Art Scale painting mask for the glazing of a model of this rescue helicopter in 1:72 scale. The set is prepared for the Airfix kit.
Responsibility details are not available.
This item is not a model of a helicopter, but a set of pre-cut self-adhesive masks for the glazing of a model of the Westland Sea King in the HAR.3 and Mk.43 versions in 1:72 scale from the manufacturer Art Scale. The masks are stuck onto the clear part, they frame the individual windows, and you then spray the frames together with the fuselage. That does away with cutting strips from masking tape, and with the Sea King, which has its glazing divided into a large number of differently shaped panels, it saves a really large amount of time. The cut is based on the Airfix kit; it need not fit a model from another manufacturer.
The double-sided version means that the set allows for masking the inner side of the glazing as well. That comes in handy when you want to finish the frames visually from inside the cockpit too, because on rescue machines with large windows the inside is clearly visible. A one-sided variant of the same type is a separate item. The express fit designation is used by the manufacturer for masks cut exactly to the shape of the part. How many masks the sheet contains and whether it also deals with the wheels is given on the box of the set.
The Sea King is the British license version of the American Sikorsky SH-3, which Westland fitted with turboshaft engines of its own. The HAR.3 version served the Royal Air Force for search and rescue and was unmistakable thanks to its striking yellow finish. The Mk.43 is the export rescue version delivered to Norway, where the machines flew over the North Sea and over the coast to rescue the crews of ships and aircraft. Both versions have the same airframe basis and differ mainly in equipment and color scheme.
Wash the clear part in lukewarm soapy water and let it dry completely. Take the masks off with tweezers or a sharp knife, lay them in the middle of the panel and press them from the center out to the edges. Press the edges down with a toothpick. Spray the paint in thin coats and take the mask off while the paint is freshly dried. With a double-sided set, start with the inner side, so that you do not end up in a situation where the outside is already painted and the part is hard to hold.
