Supplementary rubber for builds of modern cars, which carry larger wheels than older generations but at the same time keep a width matching an unwidened body. The tires are fitted onto rims obtained separately and serve to finish a part-built car model off.
The Yokohama brand makes the Advan Neova line as sporting rubber for use on the road, and the designation AD09 belongs to its modern member. In the real world this rubber most often appears on sharply tuned production cars whose owner wants higher grip but at the same time needs a tire usable all year round in the wet. The larger size class matches today's trend of large wheels with a low profile, where the side of the tire is strikingly low and the rim takes up most of the area of the wheel. On a model this creates a modern, technical-looking silhouette.
A low side means that the space between the lip of the rim and the edge of the tread is narrow, and so the transition from rim to rubber offers itself to an observer at once. It therefore pays to paint the rim before fitting the tire and not to retouch the edge of the lip afterwards. If the model is to get a lowered chassis, check the clearance in the wheel arch dry before you seat the wheel for good.
