An injection-molded plastic kit of a circuit race car from the American stock car series in 1:25 scale. The subject is the Chevrolet Monte Carlo with start number 28 in the colors of the sponsor Tuflon from the 1981 season, at whose wheel Bobby Allison sat. The model is meant to be glued, painted and decaled; it is not a finished collector's piece.
The stock cars of the turn of the 1970s and 1980s took their shape from civilian coupes, but technically they were separately built racing machines with a tube frame, a roll cage in the cabin and a large-displacement V8. The Chevrolet Monte Carlo was among the frequently used bodies in this period. The car typically has a bare interior with a racing seat, seat belts and an instrument panel, which on a model gives scope for good-looking detail if you leave the windows open.
On race cars the quality of the finish and of the decals decides everything. Sand the body carefully and spray a primer, as every imperfection will show under a gloss coat. Apply the paint in thin coats and let it cure thoroughly. Decals need a gloss surface, otherwise the carrier film will be visible around them. Large sponsor decals call for patience; use a softener and push the air bubbles out from the center. Once dry, coat the whole body with clear varnish, and sand and polish it to a high gloss if you wish. Finish and paint the frame, the engine and the chassis before you fit the body.
