F-14D Tomcat exhaust nozzles in the closed position are an add-on part from the Reskit brand in 1:32 scale. They serve to replace the end section of the engines on the Trumpeter kit.
Responsibility details are not available.
The variant for modelers who are building the Tomcat in the D version with the engines running or in a flight attitude. Reskit supplies the end section of the engine with the petals drawn in as a standalone accessory for the F-14D kit from Trumpeter. The name states that the part is made by 3D printing.
The cross section of an exhaust nozzle on a jet engine changes with the regime, so the same machine looks different while taxiing and different in flight. Drawn-in petals match normal running without afterburner; they open out, by contrast, at full thrust and after the engine is shut down. The D version carried engines that differ markedly in this place from the early machines.
On a closed nozzle it is mainly the outer surface that stands out, so give attention to fine transitions of shade along the lengthwise joints. A dark primer works well, with a thin layer of a metal tone over it and finally light tinting toward blue and brown in the places of greatest thermal stress. Before gluing, try fitting the part dry and level any transition to the fuselage with a fine abrasive.
The Tomcat has its engines set far apart with a flat tunnel between them, so both end sections are visible separately from behind and their matching setting catches the eye at once. The closed position matches a machine in flight or shortly after takeoff, so a model with these parts shows best on a stand with the landing gear retracted.
It is supplied without paints and without glue; the base Trumpeter kit is not included in the package.
