On this aircraft the ventral station serves above all to carry a large auxiliary fuel tank, without which the range would shrink to a fraction. The pylon has shaping of its own with trailing edges and carries both the locks and the plumbing through which fuel travels into the system of the machine. On a model this part tends to be dealt with superficially, because little of it is visible on a closed kit. The casting is shaped for the F-15C kit from Tamiya.
The item is intended for the single-seat air combat rendition. The later strike variant of the same aircraft has a different arrangement under the fuselage and the maker has a separate item for it. It does not pay to mix the two sets up: the difference lies in the mounting and in the outline, that is in exactly what is visible from below.
The maker also offers the same pylon for half the scale. Across this whole brand the extent of a casting follows its size remarkably faithfully; from it the scope of a package can be judged before the name itself describes it.
It is recommended to glue the pylon on only after the paintwork on the underside of the fuselage is finished, otherwise masking around it is awkward. Neither a tank nor other armament is in the package and they have to be obtained separately. The resin has to be washed first, otherwise the paint cracks once dry. If the part sits in its seat only with play, it is recommended to pack it with a thin strip of plastic and fill the gap, because from below it is precisely this gap that is the most conspicuous place on the whole model.
