The real subject

The F-4J was the naval version of the Phantom with improved onboard electronics, and the F-4S was its later rebuild with a strengthened airframe and leading-edge slats on the wing, thanks to which the machine turned better. Both types served with the US Navy and the Marine Corps and carried a colorful range of finishes, from the striking colors of command machines to the later subdued grays. The crew sits one behind the other under a pair of separately opening canopies with subdivided framing that in 1:32 scale takes up the whole upper part of the fuselage.

What the set offers

Pre-cut masks for a model of the F-4J and F-4S in 1:32 scale, cut for the Tamiya kit. You therefore do not have to cut the shapes of the frames out of adhesive tape, which with the Phantom is a job for a long evening and rarely comes out straight. The extent of the coverage and the recommended order of steps are given in the manufacturer's instructions; go through them before painting.

How to use the masks

They are applied before spraying, onto a clean and degreased surface. Press the mask down all round, on long straight frames best from the center toward the edges, so that it does not ripple. Lay the paint on in several thin coats; a single heavy one will creep under the edge and blur it. Lift the mask off with tweezers at a sharp angle before the finish has fully cured. Do not rush the clear coat while the mask is still on the part.

For modelers who build the naval Phantom in a large scale and want the glazing clean and the frames sharp. It saves the most time for anyone building with the cockpit open, where the frames are seen close up. The model, paints and glue are not part of the delivery, unless stated otherwise.
