An injection-molded plastic kit of the American carrier-borne fighter Grumman F-14D Super Tomcat in 1:48 scale from the manufacturer AMK (AvantGarde Model Kits). The kit is valued for its accurate shapes, good workmanship and well-thought-out engineering, which faithfully captures the late form of the Tomcat in the Bombcat role — with a modern cockpit and a wide choice of underwing stores. Once assembled, the variable geometry lets the wings be swung between the fully spread and the swept position.
The Grumman F-14 Tomcat was a two-seat carrier fighter with variable wing geometry, the iconic defender of American aircraft carriers. The F-14D version was the most modern — it received digital avionics, a new radar and more powerful General Electric F110 engines. Besides the air superiority fighter role it could also manage precision strikes against ground targets, hence the nickname Bombcat. It stayed in US Navy service until it was withdrawn in 2006.
Cut the parts off the frames and glue them with thin modeling cement for plastic. Finish and paint the detailed cockpit and the nose landing gear before the fuselage is closed, and mask the glazing while spraying. Lay on primer and the colors with an airbrush, carry the decals over a gloss coat and bring the panel lines out with a wash. On naval machines it is advisable to shade the panels and add in-service wear; assemble the stores according to the configuration you choose.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
