The first part of the Wolfpack decal series devoted to the Grumman F4F-4 Wildcat fighter in carrier service in the Pacific. The sheet goes onto a finished model and a kit is not in the package. Which particular machines are printed on it does not follow from the name and is not stated here.
The F4F-4 was the variant of the Wildcat adapted for service on aircraft carriers. It received a folding wing that turned back along the fuselage, so that markedly more machines fitted on the deck and below it. The armament grew to six .50 caliber machine guns, which came at the cost of the ammunition supply per gun. The landing gear retracted by hand with a crank into the fuselage, which gave the aircraft its typically narrow track. The Wildcat was slower and less agile than its Japanese opponents, but a tough structure and armor for the pilot gave it a chance where other machines burned.
The blue-gray finishes of Wildcats are dark, so white codes need a perfectly opaque surface; if the color shows through them, lay the decal on the same spot twice or put white underneath. Work with blunt-tipped tweezers and avoid pressure on the middle of the feature. At the end, varnish the whole model to the degree of sheen that matches the period you have chosen.
