Closed exhaust nozzles for the Phantom II FG.1 and FGR.2 are a resin accessory set in 1:48 scale from the manufacturer Reskit. It is not an aircraft model, but a replacement for parts in a kit.
Responsibility details are not available.
This is an accessory set of cast resin, not an aircraft kit. It replaces the exhaust nozzles of the British versions of the McDonnell Douglas Phantom II designated FG.1 and FGR.2, and that in the closed position. The set is intended for 1:48 scale and the manufacturer is Reskit.
The British versions of the Phantom differ from the American ones precisely in their power plant: instead of the original engines they were given Rolls-Royce Spey turbofan engines, which made it necessary to widen the rear part of the fuselage and which have a distinctly differently shaped nozzle. Fitting nozzles intended for the American version to a British machine is therefore a factual error that a knowledgeable viewer notices at once. The set solves this difference with one part on each side.
In injection-molded kits the nozzle is formed by halves with a parting seam inside the duct that can only be sanded down with difficulty, and the individual petals tend to be too thick because of the technology of the mold. A resin nozzle has a deep duct without a seam, sharp edges to the petals and a fine texture on the outer surface. This set corresponds to the closed, that is the clenched position of the petals; on jet aircraft the position changes according to the engine setting and according to whether the machine is standing parked, so go by photographs of the situation you want to capture. Before buying, check that the set matches your kit.
Wash the parts in lukewarm water with detergent so that the residue of the mold release agent is removed. Cut the casting blocks off with a saw or a cutting disc, never break them off, and sand the cut down; when sanding resin, protect your airways and preferably work wet. The parts are glued with cyanoacrylate glue, that is with super glue. Apply a primer before painting, then the metallic shades and finally the heat discoloration of the petals and the soot traces with pigments or heavily thinned paints.
The set is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and the basic kit are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
