The set from the Quickboost brand offers airframe access panels for the F/A-18 A, B, C and D versions in 1:32 scale. Cast resin allows finer definition of the edges, latches and pressings than injection-molded plastic manages, and in a large scale that difference is clearly visible. It is not a model of the aircraft but an accessory for a kit bought separately. The placing of the panels on the airframe is shown in the manufacturer's instructions; before buying, check that the set matches the kit you are building.
The surface of a carrier aircraft is densely covered with access panels that allow maintenance of the avionics, the hydraulics and the powerplant without extensive dismantling. On the F/A-18 their placing follows the layout of the internal compartments and differs between single-seat and two-seat versions as well. On machines in service the panels tend to be slightly different in color from their surroundings, because they are often taken off and repainted, and that is a detail that brings a model very much to life.
Wash the parts in lukewarm water with detergent. Cut the casting blocks off with a saw and sand the surface wet, so that the panel sits down on the fuselage with no gap. Sand away the original definition on the plastic as needed. It is glued with cyanoacrylate; wipe any excess off at once, because cured cyanoacrylate on a surface is hard to remove. When painting it is effective to shade the individual panels a tone lighter or darker than their surroundings and to add a fine paneliner in the gaps.
The add-on set is supplied unpainted. The base kit, glue and paints are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
