1:32 German Aircraft Dashed Lines is an airbrush painting template for spraying dashed lines on German aircraft in 1:32 scale. It is not a kit and not a decal, but an aid to painting.
Responsibility details are not available.
A self-adhesive painting template from 1 Man Army through which a dashed line is sprayed directly with paint. The sheet is applied to an already varnished surface of the model, the shade of the marking is sprayed through the cut gaps and once it has dried the template is lifted off. The resulting line is part of the finish, so it has neither a thickness of its own nor a glossy edge. A dashed line is among the typical elements of aircraft markings; it was used, for instance, to mark the boundaries of walkways or the outlines of removable panels.
A template, or a decal?
A decal is a thin film with a carrier. On an imperfectly smooth or matte base the edge of the film gives itself away with a glossy rim, which modelers call silvering, and the remedy tends to be a gloss varnish under the decal and a matte one over it. Sprayed markings do not have that problem, they take dry polishing and weathering, and there is no risk of the edge lifting in time. On the other hand they call for more careful preparation, because paint easily creeps under a template that has not seated properly.
The surface must be dry, clean and degreased. Once the template is applied, go over it with a toothpick or a blunt tip, so that the edges seat even across an engraved line. Thin the paint and spray it in several very thin coats perpendicularly from above, not at an angle under the edge of the mask. Lift the template off while the varnish is freshly dry; after several days the bond tends to be hard and there is a risk of tearing the paint away. Lift the individual pieces with the point of a scalpel, not with the fingers, so that the adhesive layer does not get greasy.
