He 219 A-0/A-2 1:32 mask set, the EXPERT level (New Ware)

Self-adhesive cut New Ware masks for the model of the twin-engine night fighter Heinkel He 219 in the early A-0 and A-2 forms, 1:32 scale. The EXPERT level is the most comprehensive step of the range. Compared with the basic level it is a substantially richer sheet, which besides the frames of the glazing and the wheels also holds further masks for taking the model further. Anyone building a large model down to the detail will save the most time with it.

What a higher level means in practice

The basic set deals with what is always masked. The more comprehensive step goes further, to the areas that are commonly worked around with tape by hand or simply skimped: small windows, the inner sides of the glazing and other details. Inner masks make sense in a large scale above all because the frame can be seen from the inside through the wide glazing, and when it is sprayed in the interior shade the model looks finished even when you look into the cockpit.

The real subject

The He 219 Uhu was a twin-engine night fighter with a nose gear and a crew of two, put into action in the closing stages of the Second World War. The A-0 and A-2 versions represent the early form. A model in a large scale shows the characteristic extensive glazing of the forward part of the fuselage.

Order of work

• Spray the interior and the inner frames first and only then fit the glazing
• Apply the outer masks only to degreased and dry parts
• Spray in thin coats and at lower pressure, and the edge will then come out crisp
• Leave unused masks on the original backing sheet and store them in the dark, as the tack then lasts substantially longer
• The masks left over on the sheet come in useful for masking the gun openings or the lights
