The seventh sheet of the Ukrainian Star Decals series belongs to the BMP-1 infantry fighting vehicle and records the markings these vehicles carried with the units of both republics, the Donetsk and the Luhansk, in 2022. You are buying the decals alone for a model in 1:35 size.
The BMP-1 was the first series-built tracked vehicle to combine the carriage of a squad with firepower of its own and the ability to swim. Its low silhouette, a small-caliber gun with a low muzzle velocity and a launcher for an anti-tank missile made it a much watched machine at the time it appeared. It was built in enormous numbers and under many licenses, so a modeler meets it on fronts from the 1970s to present-day conflicts and each time in a slightly different fit. The low-set hull moreover offers a large area for bringing out the muddy deposits and scuffed tracks that tend to be the most striking thing in photographs of these vehicles.
The sheet documents markings of 2022 and is meant for the faithful building of a model. The sides of the BMP-1 are full of rivets, grab handles and hatches, so a design is seated onto a busy area. When the film holds an air pocket on an edge after drying, pierce it with the tip of a scalpel and go over the spot with a drop of water, so that the surface presses down again.
