Shelter, sheet and rain cape in a single sheet

A square piece of proofed cloth with fasteners around the edge was fitted out so that it could be joined to a neighboring piece. Two pieces gave a low shelter for two men, four already put up a tent, and when it rained a soldier wrapped the same piece around himself and marched on. A sheet hung up or spread out therefore tells in a scene about the time a crew spent in a place, which is very hard to convey by other means.

It is supplied as a paper sheet measuring 19 x 11 centimeters, printed in color. The patterns match the camouflage of SS units and airborne forces, that is forms that differed markedly from the ground equipment of the infantry. The individual pieces are cut from the sheet with scissors or a scalpel exactly along the outline.

The uses that help a scene most

• a sheet stretched over a trench, tied with string to stakes
• a sheet spread on the ground as a mat for cleaning a weapon
• a folded bundle tucked into the side basket of an armored vehicle
• a covered heap of supplies, where what lies under the sheet cannot be told

So that the thin material does not look flat, it helps to pack it out at the bends with a small piece of cotton wool or putty and only then let it dry. The light edges after cutting have to be toned, otherwise they create a pronounced line around the cape that does not belong there. The artwork respects 1:35 scale. It pays to place a spread-out piece where a scene has a dead area, because patterned fabric fills such a place more effectively than one more small object.
