A structural element for dioramas in 1:35 scale. Concrete blocks are among the universal materials that work in a scene from a building site through a factory yard to cover hastily stacked around a position. They are elements you can never have enough of, because they can be used again and again and differently every time.
The blocks work in a scene in two ways. Either as a structure, that is a straight wall, the facing of an entrance, a bridge abutment or the torso of a building under construction. Or as clutter: a scattered heap, individual pieces sunk into the mud, a block propped under the axle of a vehicle being repaired. The second role tends to be the more rewarding, because irregularity looks natural and forgives small deviations in the layout.
Concrete is harder to paint than expected, because a uniform gray surface looks like plastic. Start from a light gray base and then break the surface up with several shades that differ from one another only slightly. Pull a dark glaze into the joints and corners, and lift the edges with a dry brush instead. Character also comes from small chips taken out of the edges with a blade, which reveal a lighter core. Finally come the pigments: dust at the foot of the wall, a dark deposit where water runs down and a hint of green growth on the north side. Wash and degrease the parts before painting, and super glue suits the gluing.
The package contains the accessories named. The kit, paints and glue are not included, unless stated otherwise.
