The figure Grenadier panzerschreck Ardennes 1945 in 1:35 scale from Black Dog depicts a German soldier with an anti-tank weapon. The Panzerschreck was a shoulder-fired rocket launcher that its crew used against armored vehicles at short range.
A soldier with a long tube on his shoulder has an unmistakable silhouette in a scene and gives away at once what the scene is about. It works well at the corner of a house, behind an embankment or at the trunk of a tree, that is wherever it is clear why the figure is taking cover. The diorama benefits when the direction the weapon points in leads out of the scene or toward a vehicle model, as the viewer then fills in the rest of the story himself.
The long smooth surface of the weapon is the most conspicuous area of the whole casting, so sanding and cleaning it up before painting really pays off. A metal part comes out most convincingly from a dark base, a light pass with a dry brush and a single wash into the recesses. Suggest the scuffed spots sparingly; exaggerated wear looks out of place on such a small area. Leave the hands holding the weapon until it is finished, so that the metallic paint does not get onto the palms.
