Ammunition transport boxes of the modern type in 1:35. Twenty-eight resin castings with a decal for present-day scenes.
Responsibility details are not available.
Packaging for ammunition went through a fundamental change after 1945. The wooden box that dominated during the war gave way to a hermetically sealable sheet metal container with a rubber seal and a hinged lid, because cartridges had to be stored for years in the tropics and in frost without losing their reliability. Later, pressed plastic containers with molded ribs were added. Wood did not disappear from armies, but it stepped down to the role of outer packaging.
The difference is visible at first glance: today's boxes have rounded corners, a uniform shade of green or sand color and markings printed in precise blocks, whereas older wooden packaging carried an irregular stencil on a rough surface. Anyone building a modern scene should keep to stackable shapes and above all to uniformity, because today's supply is standardized.
Sheet metal and plastic do not wear like wood. The paint stays whole and the damage concentrates into narrow areas: the lids, the edges of the bottom, the area around the catches. White scuffs on the plastic and marks pressed in by straps also appear. Rust is rarer than on older packaging, but dust and grease are everywhere.
The decal makes it possible to mark present-day lettering without writing by hand. Before applying it, paint the area with a glossy coat, flatten it off once dry and add a thin layer of dust. Leave the catches and hinges in a different shade; on real packaging they tend to be made of a different metal than the shell.
